Sassafras Apartments
Independent Living at it's best!
Sassafras Apartment Complex is located in
Equal Opportunity Housing
Dan LaLone was born with cerebbral palsey and lived with his parents for much of his early adult life. However, Dan always dreamed of having his own home one day and in this dream, his home would provide adequate privacy and allow him the freedom to make personal choices important to him. He would also be allowed to direct his own care with "attention to detail" and individualism regarding his specific disability and the challenges that come with it.
For the dream to be fully realized, Dan's home would possess a certain amount of security, allow for a great deal of dignity, and enable him to experience the kind of life he so desperately desired.
Eventually Dan was able to compel a small, yet determined group of individuals with the same dream and the conception of Sassafras Apartment Complex was born. Springfield Inter-Dependent Living, Inc. was formed with a lofty mission at the time: To provide low-income housing and it be synonymous with true independence! This also meant that the physical property could not be a hindrance as other structures often are, and that the individuals living there would be limited only by their imaginations.
Thanks to the tenacity and perseverance of a handful of people, this youngs man's dream was finally realized and in 1994, the construction of Sassafras Apartments was completed. Dan moved in and began the second half of his life with the freedoms that most of us simply take for granted.
Today, Sassafras has earned a reputation in the Physically Challenged Community for providing quality, low-income housing that not only allows, but encourages the tenants to live rich and full lives with the perfect balance of individualism and customized assistance. Each Tenant is responsible for acquiring as much or as little assistance as they need or desire to help them with the challenges of daily living.
Rental fees include utilities, trash, and wireless, high speed internet. The property is entirely accessible with roll in showers, wide doorways, fully accessible laundry facilities, kitchens and bathrooms. In addition, there is a patio and garden area with enough room to entertain large groups of friends and family members. The property is beautifully landscaped with vegetation that naturally attracts the smallest forms of nature’s beauties such as butterflies and humming birds.
Springfield Inter-Dependent Living, Inc. will never waver in their commitment in supporting he Physically Challenged Adult.
